Anderson, O' Malley, Csihar and Moore

Last night I attended the spectacle of Sunn 0))).

Three normal men walked up to their respective instruments and proceeded to play doom laden with psychadelia, chants and the occasional tambourine, this was OM. Their first two songs were less psychadelic and more traditional doom, utilizing the gargantuan stack of Sunn 0))) and Orange amps to further boost their bass driven deity. during the mid part of the set things took a softer, slower approach which had many of the aged 50+ members of the crowd stood next to me in absolute amazement, the only problem I had at this point was the sterile nature of the group, everything they wanted was precise and took away from the overall warmth of their set. Coming up to 9 o' clock they played their set closer, finishing up with a quiet to loud number that went down brilliantly.

After half an hour of backing music that wouldnt have been out of place in some 1950's movie, dry ice filled up the stage as expected and after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, three robed figures appeared. The first wave of drones hit like a heavy tide, first my head started to vibrate and little by little my whole body joined it. After twenty minutes of this, a fourth figure crept slowly from behind the veil of artificial fog and started to chant, Atilla Csihar had now become present in all of this and a new dimension had opened up in this "show" the drones of O' Malley and Anderson had softened to a hush and Moore also started creating whirls of his own noise from his Korg, soon to pull out a trombone and scare the wits out of some onlookers, Csihar by this point, had become a swirl of fog still invoking unatural forces through strange dance, death growls, black metal screams and intensely deep montone chants.

By this point some of the crowd were leaving half an hour into the performance, soon after Atilla left the stage and then the second wave of drones came, each time they changed my body wanted to do something different, at one point it felt like I was being hit by the sound, breathing became slightly difficult at this point, suddenly I felt like sleeping and my body was moving in slight increments like a pendulum while I closed my eyes, I really cant explain how this was happening, but all the while the three menacing cloaked figures, two with instrument held high were causing all this with such little effort it seemed.

The noise started to gradually die down and it looked to be ending, until Csihar resumed his place now garbed in mirror robe, laser hands and glass spike crown, for an extremely elongated, free form version of 'Big Church (Megszentségtelenيthetetlenségeskedéseitekért)'. Dredging their way through this with Csihar reciting the title over and over into a clear glass head, running lasers over his face, crown and the all of the stunned onlookers, as this by definable terms "glass creature" mesmerised for a second time and then it was done, no big endings just a simple stop and a resounding amount of applause and the robed ones revealing themselves with arms held high.

This was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I shall never forget it.

They may have slowly strayed into progressive territory and straight out of a lot of fans hearts, but this album is an extremely precise exercise in musical exploration and has created this years best song "Oblivion".

4.Doomriders - Darkness Comes Alive
Finally gracing us with album number two after four years, the 'riders come out heavier and louder than ever with their new school take on Entombed style rock and roll metal.

5.Shrinebuilder - Shrinebulder
Deeply immersive release from the most anticipated supergroup of the last few years, featuring the main players from the doom/metal scene.

6.Church Of Misery - Houses Of The Unholy
The grooviest, catchiest doom record ever!!!.

7.Mariachi El Bronx - El Bronx
Also known as The Bronx, they stepped out from their normal L.A. punk roots and wrote a Mariachi record which to everyones surprise was just as good as their day job.

8.Vader - Necropolis
The Polish Death Metal Veterans, should by now be in a care home, but instead created an ultra heavy relentless death metal assault of an album that just doesnt give up .

9.Isis - Wavering Radiant
Their best work since "Oceanic", That is all.

10.Bon Iver - Blood Bank
Justin Vernon outdoes his first album, with four songs of pure beauty easing up on the melancholy with a warmer approach, "Woods" was a constant fixture throughout this years listening

Its amazing how the smallest pieces of plastic and paper can run your life, especially after you lose them. I've been set back a lot recently after losing my wallet and it just seems so utterly proposterous when you think about. *Edit* My bank card just came through my life is slightly filled with a bit more win again.

Having not been on the net for a while once again, im already neglecting this waste of bandwidth before its even worth anything to me. To be fair to myself I moved out of my shitty hometown last week to live with my girlfriend down south, which is working out brilliantly at the moment, aside from losing my wallet within five minutes of being there which contained my ID, bank card and birth certificate. Lets cut to the chase and talk about some shit that only means something to me.

The damnation festival a few weeks ago disappointed me a little, bad organisation and cutting off previously accessible areas from last year does not make a happy me. Also Jesu really sucked live (yeah I still like them, get over it) causing me some anguish, but the likes of Electric Wizard, whom I'd only really gone for in the first place blew the place apart and made it all worth it! I also went to see Cannibal Corpse a week later (Dont worry yourselves, I dont pay for these fucking shows) who in all honesty are a 'death metal institution' but are sadly a little passed it these days,I got more of a kick watching Dying Fetus beforehand even though the kid in front of me who broke out into spastic fits of hairwhip and also smelt like he shit himself kind of soured my viewing pleasure.

To round a pretty crap post off, I looked through what I'd chosen as my top records for this year and I realised I'm going to sound like I suck off Hydra Head and Relapse all at the same time, oh lord.

So I've been shitting my pants about this for about two months, the annual damnation festival is coming this month with an insane line up and my dad keeps telling hes unsure on getting the tickets, when today he pulls out the goods and orders them, no time like the present eh?

Apparentely this is going to be electric wizards last show for a long time, as they start their new album just after this. Its going to be fucking killer aside from life of agony and therapy? stinking up the place, oh and what the hell happened to entombed?

So I'm majorly bored and thinking of compiling my top records list for this year (there isnt really many more albums to get excited about!) and also actually doing my first album/show review proper for the first time in over a year. Theres a hardcore show tonight (Glasses/November 13th/Closure) that would probably make a good first piece but as ever im totally broke.

Also my girlfriend went back home a few days ago and im already going out of my mind...

Ok so i dont want to sound like one of these dudes who would fap in their own faeces just because of the members of this band, but seriously this is some sweet blissed out doom from some of the most lauded musicians in this day and age!

I seriously cant wait for this album to drop because it will piss on everything else from great heights for a long time. lets face it though scott weinrich can do no wrong.

So I rejoin the internet loving masses after my pc's been out of service for around 3 weeks, only to have possibly lost all my music i'd accumulated over the last few years and then I find out Sordomusic.com has now closed down. Damn my first post sucks!

On another note i really need to listen to shrinebuilder some more.
